The Rolex 5512 has four main dial configurations for the glossy gilt dials. In the chapter ring segment we have the two line and the four line always PCG and between 1959 and 1962 +~. Both examples below have the exclamation point at 6.

Then we move to the transitional year 1963 for the Rolex 5512 where we see the non chapter ring Swiss only glossy gilt. The case remains PCG. There are various underline positions.

Finally the forth of the gilt 5512 dials from 1964 - 1966. We have the Swiss T <25 glossy gilt with round crown guards. The serial range in this segment ends in the 1.4 mil range. I will try to snap a few more pictures of the models together.

I will try and put a 5512 gilt report together soon to explore this model in more details.

About the Rolex Submariner Ref. 5512

Rolex Submariner Reference 5512

The Submariner reference 5512 represents Rolex's no-date variant within the Submariner series. Distinguished by its clean dial layout without date complication, this reference was produced from 1962 to 1989, spanning nearly three decades of manufacturing.

The 40mm stainless steel case houses either caliber 1560 or 1570 automatic movements, providing 42-48 hours of power reserve. The watch features a black dial, unidirectional rotating bezel with aluminum insert, and acrylic crystal. Water resistance extends to 200 meters, with the watch fitted to a stainless steel bracelet.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking the fundamental Submariner aesthetic without date functionality. The extended production period and dual caliber usage create multiple variations within the 5512 designation. The no-date configuration offers symmetrical dial proportions that attract purists within the collecting community.

I have to resist, I have to resist... Don't open the thread, don't open it...

One day, you'll have to show them to me. I am trying to find my way in these Gilt'y) Rolex Subs, by the way. And you didn't explore the tropical Subs, for the moment! Best, my friend, and thanks for another very interesting post. Nicolas

Resistance is futile my friend.

You are already living on the dark side so nothing can hold you back. I have just been trying to systematically cover the bases. I have some coverage with the tropical dials but it is always a personal thing. There is no homogenous way to classify them. But I have a n open mind. Bill

I know I know. But I will have to decide between a gorgeous Tudor 7928 and its Rolex

Sister, if I want a tropical dial. If I want to go for a deep glossy gilt dial, no wonder here, a 5512 or 13... Preferrably underline. Best, Nicolas, from the dark side.
