Jlc.thomsen, a long-time watch enthusiast who previously avoided Rolex, shares his journey to acquiring a highly sought-after 'Flat 4' Mark 1 Kermit. His post details the intensive hunt for this specific vintage reference, emphasizing the importance of condition and correct details, marking a significant shift in his collecting philosophy.

In my time of appreciating and collecting watches I always avoided Rolex. Not sure why really
Then I started reading about the Kermit Flat four.
It became an obsession to find one and today I drove 1.100 km to take this baby home.
A Flat 4 Mark 1 with all the right details and serial number.
I avoided any old stock, as I’d like to enjoy the watch from time to time and actually wear this rare baby.
Found this never polished super nice example after an intensive hunt.
Hope you can forgive me everything I have said.
This watch is immaculate in it’s own right. Outstanding!!!

About the Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 16610LV

The Submariner Date reference 16610LV, often recognized by its distinctive green bezel, was introduced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Submariner line. This particular reference stands out from the standard Submariner Date models due to its unique colorway, offering a different aesthetic while retaining the core design principles of the collection. It represents a specific period in the Submariner's evolution, bridging classic design with a celebratory touch.

This reference features a 40mm Oyster case crafted from 904L stainless steel, paired with a matching Oyster bracelet. It is equipped with the self-winding Rolex Caliber 3135, a movement known for its precision and reliability, offering a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, and its construction ensures a water resistance rating suitable for its intended use.

For collectors, the 16610LV holds particular appeal due to its limited production run and unique bezel color, distinguishing it from other Submariner Date references. It is a notable variant within the Submariner family, offering a distinct visual identity while maintaining the robust engineering associated with the model. Its place in the lineup is marked by its anniversary significance and its departure from the traditional black bezel.

There a few dial details that have to be there to define a Mark 1 anniversary LV (Lunette Verte) or Kermit.

Onestly i am not a watch collector. I am a person who is interested in watches. But why i respond is that i have a same approach to the subject. Loving many watches, and Rolex is not my holy grail. And yes, i want to search for the hulk. Full green, because it is a way to express my personality. Born for green, doing it. Nature life, hunting, explorering. Even i like green cars.... not the technique but the paint. A wood with nail trees, a survival bag and see what come through on the road. My R

I am (perhaps stupidly) watching the watch as a whole complete thing. Congrats anyhow. You got a very nice watch. Best, Kari

Z Serial #. I used to dive with this watch. Don’t do so anymore because people would go “you dive with that” and I would say “it’s a dive watch”. After a while it got tiring. So now it’s either the 14060, 16610 or 16600 that dares to get wet. And for 3 months it was even the 16700. Scandalous!

Yes seems a little crazy-until you get smitten by it.

So, do not damage it, but wear it with joy! A nice collectors item.
