About the Rolex Day-Date 40 Ref. 228235

The Day-Date represents Rolex's flagship dress watch lineage, introduced in 1956 as the first wristwatch to display both date and day of the week spelled out in full. This particular example showcases the modern 40mm generation that debuted in 2015, featuring the distinctive olive green dial that has become increasingly sought after among collectors. The Day-Date has maintained its position as Rolex's most prestigious offering, traditionally available only in precious metals and famously worn by presidents and industry leaders.

The 228235 houses the Caliber 3255 movement, part of Rolex's new generation of movements featuring the Chronergy escapement and extended 70-hour power reserve. The fluted bezel, crafted from white gold, creates the signature light-catching ridges that have defined the Day-Date aesthetic for decades. The President bracelet with its semi-circular three-piece links provides both comfort and unmistakable visual identity, while the green dial offers a contemporary alternative to traditional champagne or silver configurations.

This green dial variant has gained significant traction in the secondary market, representing Rolex's subtle embrace of color while maintaining classical proportions. The Day-Date 40 in white gold occupies the upper tier of Rolex's current catalog, positioned above steel sport models but below gem-set variants. Current market conditions show strong appreciation for this reference, particularly in the striking green dial configuration, making it both a statement piece for daily wear and a solid addition to any serious collection.

It is the olive green dial.

Due to the sunbrushed dial the shade and intensity of the green colour is strongly changing with different light conditions.

I get that — olive is a better descriptor for sure.
