Epilogue, a student, proudly showcases his meticulously curated Rolex collection, acquired through hard work during internships and various jobs. His post offers a personal look at his Explorer II, GMT-Master II, and Submariner, sharing the stories behind each acquisition and inviting community feedback on his choices and photography.

Dear Collectors,

After two summer internships and a non negligible amount of babysittings and tutoring sessions, I am extremely proud to present my Rolex collection.

Enjoy the pictures!

The Polar Explorer was my favourite to photograph. This one is from 1992.

The GMTc was my first Rolex. I wanted my first piece to be a new model and this one in particular is form 2008. I mostly read the time off the GMT hand which I call the "romantic hand". I call it that because sometimes, during a nice evening for instance, there is no need for precision...gives an air of nonchalance hehe.

And another

Now for the ND sub. This one is from 1997 and the patina has not matured very much yet. I received this one through the post...it was a frightening experience. I wore it while "free diving" (very shallow free diving he he) not long ago and I was pleased with its performance....as in there was no water infiltration!

Finally, here is the trio:

Of course, all have B&P.

My next acquisition (planned for Oct 2012) will either be a Panerai Submersible, a 5513 or I will possibly trade in a watch + cash for a Red Sub.

Thoughts and photography tips are welcome!

Hugo

About the Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513

The Rolex Submariner reference 5513 is a notable example within the Submariner line, distinguished by its two-line dial and lack of a date complication. Produced for an extended period, it represents a core offering for collectors seeking a straightforward and robust tool watch. Its design emphasizes legibility and functionality, aligning with the original purpose of the Submariner series. This reference is recognized for its consistent aesthetic throughout its production run, with subtle variations in dial text and bezel inserts.

The watch features a 40mm stainless steel Oyster case, offering durability and water resistance suitable for its intended use. Powering the reference 5513 is the automatic Caliber 1520 movement, known for its reliability. The crystal is acrylic, contributing to the vintage character of the watch. The unidirectional rotating bezel, typically with an aluminum insert, allows for elapsed time measurement.

For collectors, the reference 5513 is a significant model due to its long production history and the various dial iterations, such as gilt and matte dials, which present distinct collecting opportunities. Its appeal lies in its foundational design and its position as a non-date Submariner, making it a desirable piece for those who appreciate the model's original form. The watch is often paired with an Oyster bracelet, completing its functional aesthetic.

And congratulations for your very nice Trio. A Sub, an Explo and a GMT, your bases are pretty well covered. I specially like the patina of your 16 570, which developped some nice creamy accents. As for the GMT II C, a watch which is still in my wish list. Don't trade them for a Red Sub, IMO. You will regret your GMT and your Explorer II. Take your time, enjoy the moment, and you'll see. Best, Nicolas

Fantastic trio.... I have seen a number of people start off their collections buying a brand new Rolex as they want to "age" with the watch. I had never really thought of that...but what a lovely idea. I have some questions...... 1) What made you choose those three? Anything about those three or was it just trying to get some variation within the Roles theme? 2) Why Rolex? I am guessing you work in finance....dealing floors are awash with Panerai and AP....why go Rolex? 3) US or UK? Great to hav
