Chicolini's post introduces a highly embellished Rolex, prompting a discussion about personal taste versus perceived conservatism in watch collecting. His candid reflections on owning such a 'flashy' piece, even if primarily for private enjoyment, resonate with the community's diverse perspectives on luxury watches.

The workmanship is stunning. Very very limited wear and perhaps not at all but it sure is fun to stare at and wear around the house. Wow. And a very good financial move too. Anyway, thought you might enjoy a look. Some will hate it, some will love it . . . one thing it does is elicit strong opinions!

I owned that watch, I would probably never wear it, but I would enjoy it every day. It would be in my home on display wear the light could hit it “just right”. I think it’s beautiful!😍

I’m pretty conservative and may not ever wear it; but I’ll look at it a lot and appreciate the beautiful gems and the workmanship.

Large retailers and buyers alike from near and far. If there was ever a smaller “event” to wear an “important” (translation “show off”) watch to it would have been this. My watch? My $800 Mido Commander Shade and I loved it! I think this all fits with being “conservative?”

You have too many beautiful avant-garde pieces in your collection to have purely conservative taste. Are your spectacular Greubel Forsey and De Bethune pieces consistent with conservative taste? So I don't actually believe your watch tastes are always as conservative as you say, but I think there are times - like the occasion you just mentioned - where it’s important to you to be seen as being conservative. That’s not quite the same thing 😀 So I say come to the dark side, embrace your wild side
