I am always intrigued by the wise and inspiring choices of other puristsPro members so I would like to
play a simple game. Taking the rolex day-date platinum price as a budget which watch you would have bought
with the following characteristics:

a) It has to be a statement and recognisable
b) To be usable in all business settings (suits)
c) to have some versatility for non-business
d) same price of a new day-date platinum
e) automatic with date

or which special watch did you buy in this price range to commemorate something truly special and possibly
be the highlight of your collection ?

Thanks for your participation smile

I am seriously considering the Rolex Platinum Day-Date. I used to have the Rolex YG Day-Date (1999), but it was stolen alongside my Rolex GMT Master 2 (1997) and Rolex SS Daytona (2006) in 2008. Now, my collection consists of: 1) Breitling Ti Aerospace Repetition Minutes (1994) 2) Audemar Piquet SS Royal Oak Offshore Annual Calendar (2000) 3) IWC SS Vintage Portugieser (1942) (bought in 2005) 4) Rolex SS Daytona (2009) 5) Patek Philip YG 5970j Chronograph Perpetual Calendar (2009) It has been a

If you don't mind a heavier watch - you will get used very quickly - the day date is an excellent choice. I have a 5711 and is certainly not the same feeling as the day date platinum. The PP, being steel, is obviously much lighter watch and a different feeling. I found the day date extraordinary and, hopefully, it will help me to limit the dangerous effects of a watch collecting bug!! I really think that if you are looking for something versatile but a statement at the same time a day date plati

mint with box & papers. I bet this one will please a lot, WIS recognise the watch without problems and it holds it's value unlike Rolex Day-Date. Best, Kari

I wouldn't be so sure about holding value with a used watch ..it could increase in value but it is so difficult to say. For a nautilus I would rather go with the 5711. I really prefer new watches that start their history with me ;) but this is highly subjecting and I respect your view on this. I just think that the value retention issue is a bit of a myth. If is sold today at X it is probably just worth X. I really don't worry so much about the value loss as I hope that I won't ever have to sell
