Sham1, a self-professed dress watch enthusiast, shares his unexpected acquisition of a Rolex Datejust Ref. 126234-0013, marking a significant departure from his usual collecting habits. His post details his appreciation for the 36mm size, the comfort of the Jubilee bracelet, and his candid thoughts on Rolex's market presence. This article offers a fresh perspective from a collector traditionally drawn to other brands, highlighting the Datejust's enduring appeal.

I have been in London to attend a Patek event and came across a watch that caught my eye from a brand that would not normally catch my eye.  I must confess I have never been a great fan of Rolex partly because I have been partial to dress watches with leather straps and partly because I felt that the brand had become too commercialised. People were buying the brand but not necessarily the watch if you know what I mean. So those who know me well would be quite surprised that after minimal deliberation because it seemed like a no brainer, I have spoiled myself with a Rolex Datejust, the ref 126234-0013 ie stainless steel with white gold bezel and I opted for the more classical silver dial rather than a black or blue dial. The watch is in 36mm, a size very attune to my 6.5 inch wrist.  I simply love the jubilee bracelet which is ultra comfortable although many might prefer the oyster bracelet. I personally feel that the jubilee bracelet makes the watch look a bit more expensive (which it is!) like a piece of ornament.

You might even notice that I have not even removed the tags from the watch as I tend to take my time to fully appreciate every single detail of a watch.  Last year my AD in Malaysia sold me a Daytona which I just felt was too large for me. A fellow purist with a similar sized wrist to mine now enjoys the watch and I am glad because it has gone to an appreciative owner.  I am so glad I have waited this long to buy a Roiex that I feel will be part of my life for a very long time.  Thank you for reading.

I am afraid I am the black sheep of the family as none of of my family members like watches so I am financially safe to spoil only myself! This will probably be the only Rolex I shall ever own but such is its allure that I feel it can be worn on all occasions.
