AndrewD reflects on the profound confidence he places in his Rolex 5513, highlighting its unwavering reliability during extensive travels and rugged activities. His post invites fellow collectors to share which of their watches inspire similar trust. This discussion explores the intersection of durability, accuracy, and personal attachment that defines a truly dependable timepiece.

Confidence – it’s a special relationship to have with anything. And when it comes to mechanical objects, be they watches, cars or other ‘tools’, it’s relatively rare. But the Rolex 5513 is a watch that I have developed enormous confidence in. This is no more obvious than when I am travelling, which I have been doing for the last couple of weeks. The 5513 just functions as it should. I know that it will be displaying the correct time (it gained 5 seconds in 10 days), that it will be running after an overnight rest (it is one of my most efficient automatics), it will take some rugged activities (swimming, caving, jet boating, climbing) and it will look good in all situations (from beach to fine dining).

Which of your watches do you have the most confidence in?

Andrew

. . . my G O Karree PanoDate . . . . . . and the Zenith El Primero . . . . . . both of which have been completely reliable. The Zenith did have to return for adjustment to the hour totalizer, but has been steady ever since. Both run extremely well, with the El Primero offering extended duration to boot. I'm beginning to understand why the EP has so many fans . . . it's akin to a first-generation Porsche 911, extremely competent without any frills. I've got to give the Karree the edge, though, be

variations of only a +-couple-three seconds a day that average out to about the same over an extended period. Not bad for a 35 year-old-watch. Seeing that Omega put a quartz module in the new Flightmaster reissue, it may also do as well ;-)

This one goes where I go, Most of my other watches are vintage, and are just too delicate requiring too much care to burden myself with on trips. With the GMT master, I don't need to think about sweating into the leather strap, sweating into the watch, getting wet in the rain, scratching the plastic crystal, etc. and its so convenient to have your home time zone always at hand along with the 'guest' time zone. Apart from all of which it keeps near perfect time, so pretty much an unbeatable propo

If I have to take only one watch for a long trip I would certainly take my Triple 6. Over any other Vintage Rolex, because it is still water resistant. Now, if I don't have to plan any water activities, I would take the 6542 with me, and / or any of my Vintage GMTs. A " no problem " watch, accurate, with a friendly complication, and an unbelievable look. I have two other contenders, which are worth being mentionned, here. One I ALWAYS take with me, when I travel: The UN Sonata. The other is also
