Is there a destination in your mind, or is it all a mirage?

About the Patek Philippe Sky-Dweller Ref. 326934

The Sky-Dweller represents Rolex's most complex modern complication, introduced in 2012 as the manufacture's answer to the annual calendar. Initially offered exclusively in precious metals, the collection expanded to steel variants in 2017, democratizing access to what had been Rolex's most exclusive contemporary piece. The Sky-Dweller occupies a unique position within the Crown's catalog, bridging the gap between tool watch heritage and haute horlogerie ambitions.

Powered by the caliber 9001, this 42mm case houses Rolex's proprietary Saros annual calendar system, which tracks month, date, and dual time zones while requiring adjustment only once per year. The fluted command bezel serves as both aesthetic flourish and functional interface, allowing the wearer to set different functions by rotating to specific positions. The black dial variant offers enhanced legibility for the complex display, with the off-center 24-hour disc providing immediate reference time readability.

In today's market, steel Sky-Dwellers command significant premiums over retail, reflecting both limited production numbers and growing appreciation for Rolex's technical capabilities beyond simple three-hand sports models. The reference 326934 with fluted bezel has emerged as particularly desirable among collectors who value the visual contrast between brushed steel case sides and polished bezel geometry. This model effectively demonstrates that contemporary Rolex can achieve horological complexity while maintaining the brand's fundamental design language and reliability standards.

For me it's a return to simpler, more affordable watches

Same for cars and many other things in life. Value for money, affordable luxury and generally streamlining and letting go to make my life simple.

A few phases

1. Sampling a bit of everything. I guess I am still guilty of this. IMO, the OWNERSHIP experience over weeks or months is very, very different versus trying a watch out in-person for a brief period of time. This has happened to me so many times where I ended up loving a piece I didn't like when I tried it briefly. 2. Optimizing my collection such that every watch fulfills a purpose. I am basically here. I have a lot of redundant pieces that I barely wear to be honest, and should probably sell, b

πŸ€ͺ it's all a mirage, of course.

We would as soon wear a pedometer, or a smart watch, as when our doctor tells us πŸ˜‰ Before then, enjoy Chk

Lost sight of a destination a long time ago πŸ˜‚

Or put differently - while there have been a couple of collecting themes of mine since more or less since the beginning and I broadly follow these still, I also meander around a bit depending on what I like and on top with a certain number of watches already owned the desire for additional ones has cooled somewhat. Still a list for what I would like to get but no pressing priorities anymore thanks cannot wait for a couple of years, when the opportunity is right 😊
