Amanico recounts his decade-long love affair with the Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5110P, sharing the emotional journey of acquiring this highly coveted timepiece in Taormina, Sicily. His evocative narrative captures the profound connection a collector can develop with a watch, transforming a dream into a cherished reality. This personal account offers a unique perspective on the enduring appeal of a significant Patek Philippe reference.
The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5130, introduced in 2006, is a World Time watch that succeeded the popular reference 5110. This model maintained the distinctive World Time complication, allowing for simultaneous display of time in 24 different time zones. Its design evolved with a slightly larger case and updated dial aesthetics, distinguishing it from its predecessor while retaining the core functionality that defines Patek Philippe's travel timepieces. It was produced until 2017.
The watch features an 18k rose gold case measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 9.8mm in thickness, housing the self-winding Caliber 240 HU movement. This ultra-thin movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, provides a power reserve of 48 hours. The dial is silver or opaline with a guilloché center, protected by a sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.
Reference 5130 appeals to collectors seeking a sophisticated travel complication from Patek Philippe. Its larger case size compared to the 5110 offered a more contemporary presence on the wrist, while its classic World Time mechanism remained a hallmark of the brand's technical prowess. The model was available in various precious metals, with the rose gold variant offering a warm aesthetic.
But, I have a curious question. Why all the way to Sicily for a new Patek? However, the shop owner seems to be a real torturer! Continue to wear in the best of health Best, Joe
You're a clever watch fan and I'm happy you too met that day. HappyB' ! Cheers, Mark
It captures everything about being a Purist. Your heart, feelings, emotions......everything is caught in this post. Nothing more for me to say other than thank you for the reminder of what watch collecting passion is all about. For any newcomer to these forums, this is THE post to start reading.
When I discovered Taormina. I bought him the Breguet Type XX Salmon dial. It was a funny deal. I knew him for a few days before, I didn't have the money on me, and nobody to do the wire for me, and he let me go with the Watch, trusting me. We became friends. We met, during the year 2004, 5 times. Once in Paris, the 4 other times In Taormina. In Spetember, he called me to tell me that he had this 5110P in sotck, and that, if I was interested, it was for me.... Here is the way this story started.
Passion and Admiration for a watch. You can also add " Magic ", as it is ALWAYS magic when dreams come true. Few watches provide such a pleasure. This one is definitely in my Top Ten Keepers. Best, Nicolas
