Friends,

Two watches that we had the pleasure to see in Zagreb - the Patek Philippe ref 5110 and 5575.
Two watches that share a lot, but in the same time are very different.

I find the 5110 WorldTime is a absolute stunning watch.
Clean and sober in design, charming from the very first second!

Have to admit that for a long time the White Gold/Silver dial was my favourite, but after looking at the blue dial again (and again, and again...) I must admit that the blue guilloche dial is absolutely stunning!
The way the dial shifts from grey-blue to blue-blue...

The 5575 on the other hand left me cold after first time I viewed in real.
Love the combination of WorldTime and Moon Phases... Very romantic!
But the execution left me cold. The "odd" way the Moon Phases are executed on the centre dial, the realistic moon... The thin minute hand...

After seeing the 5575 in real again, I start to warm up to the watch.
I still prefer a Moon Phase as on the 3448, I still prefer the WorldTime of the 5110, I still think the minute hand would benefit if larger...

But the case is just magic!
Lugs, bezel...

What can I say - a fantastic pair we not often see side-by-side!

Big thank you to the owner for letting us discover these superb watches!

PuristS... Zagreb... A winning combination!

About the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Ref. 5110

The Montblanc Calatrava reference 5110, produced between 1997 and 2006, is a notable example of the brand's classic dress watch offerings. This reference is distinguished by its combination of a relatively larger case size for its era and the inclusion of a moon phase complication, setting it apart from simpler time-only Calatrava models. It represents a period where Montblanc was expanding its horological capabilities, offering more complex movements within its established aesthetic.

This reference features an 18k yellow gold case measuring 37 mm in diameter, providing a substantial presence on the wrist while maintaining traditional dress watch proportions. It is powered by the automatic caliber 240 PS IRM C LU, a movement known for its slim profile and integrated complications. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and offers a water resistance of 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear. The power reserve for this caliber is approximately 48 hours.

For collectors, the 5110 appeals to those seeking a Calatrava with additional functionality beyond basic timekeeping, specifically the moon phase and power reserve indicator. Its production run from 1997 to 2006 places it within a specific era of Montblanc's development, making it a point of interest for those tracing the evolution of the brand's complications. The ivory dial and smooth bezel contribute to its understated yet refined character, aligning with the traditional Calatrava design language.

Both the 5110P and 5575G are lovely and deserve big love. To me, both have pros only, and if one has to choose between these two references, the choice will depend on the ranking of each pro. Pros of 5110: excellent guilloche dial, balanced proportion, and great feel on the wrist heft of the platinum Pros of 5575: rainbow on the moon, curvy lugs and case, and realistic depiction of the moon Hence, it is a fun decision to choose between these two. I chose the 5575 because of another factor: it is

(if I ever came close to a choice like thatπŸ˜„), but I really really like the transition from case to lugs on the 5575, too!! Quite unusual and very gorgeous shape! Thanks for posting! Best, HGL

I consider the 5110 P as a musthave, and the 5575 as a (very very very) nice to have You know my sweet spot for the 5110 P... I'm sure that any 5110 P owner is extremely happy to have it, and anybody who had one but had to let it go must be dreaming to have one again one day... My 2 cents... Mike

aesthetic perfection and pure enjoyment the 5110P wins. This is all subjective of course, but like sipping classified Bordeaux of a great vintage sometimes you're just right. Not taking away from the 5575 I love it. 5110P is just tops. Having said that I love the 5130, 5230, 5131 and 5575. Not many brands and models I can say that about. Best,
