MTF provides a flash report on the Montblanc 4810 ExoTourbillon Slim Limited Edition Mexico, a piece inspired by the golden age of transatlantic travel. This post delves into the watch's unique patented ExoTourbillon movement, its quick stop-second mechanism, and the artistry of its hand-painted dial, contextualizing it within the broader 4810 collection.

This is just a Flash Report before the full story.....

Trans-Atlantic Crossing

The Montblanc 4810 ExoTourbillon Slim was inspired by the golden age of transatlantic trade and travel. An era of fast steamships plying the North Atlantic with Blue Riband awards and new speed records.

Redolent with splendour of elegant travel when the journey was as important as the destination, the three Montblanc 4810 ExoTourbillon Slim variants introduced at SIHH 2016 are a tribute to global adventure.

Such Adventure...Why? Even newfangled means of transport such as trans-Atlantic flight was a possibility!

Showcasing their patented and unique Manufacture Calibre, the ExoTourbillon with a highly functional quick stop-second mechanism, the new automatic movement allows setting of the time with precision, to the second. All this is done within a classically elegant watch. Smaller than standard rotors, the movement’s high-velocity micro-rotor allows performance and precision while achieving a lighter and slimmer construction.

Thanks to the special construction of the ExoTourbillon – with the balance wheel outside the tourbillon cage for a better isochronism of the balance’s oscillation – the quick stop-second mechanism halts the screwed balance wheel without losing its kinetic energy.

Like the setting and winding functions, which are indicated at 3 o’clock, the stop-second mechanism is operated using the crown. With ultimate functionality and longevity ensured by the Montblanc Laboratory Test 500, the ExoTourbillon Stop-Second complication bestows this fine lifetime companion with everlasting precision.

But the watch is excellent. I am not a big fan of tourbillons which make a hole in the dial, but this is one of the rare exceptions I appreciate. A really nice watch, and a good movement! Best, Nicolas
