This article spotlights a rare Minerva 38mm Pythagore 'Blue Hands' model, a neo-vintage treasure from circa 1999. Author this_hobby_of_hours shares his personal insights and stunning photography of this seldom-seen reference, offering a deep dive into its unique characteristics and historical context under the Frey family's stewardship. His detailed examination provides invaluable information for collectors interested in Minerva's pre-Montblanc era.

For those that love Minerva like I do …

This NEO-vintage model is from circa 1999 and very few were made. I’m thinking about 50 made but it’s all conjecture at this point until I am able access the MB archives.

38 mm with the calibre 48 Pythagore manual wind. This model was called “Blue hands”. We can see the heat blued hands over a (hint of linen) dial that has a Bauhaus influence. Extra special sauce with the original Minerva bracelet.

Made under the famed Frey family, Minerva (the company) would be sold the following year.

Hope you enjoy the pics of one that I treasuređź’™

Do you have some closeups of the linen dial? 🤞🏻

But the one I have seen always had the pilot type dial with cathedral hands. And the bracelet was fully brushed.

match the case of the watch it came with. Most of the Aviator cases I’ve seen have brushed finishes. This bracelet is from my other 38 mm Pythagore 2 which has the high polish case finish. Back then, the Frey’s would also take custom requests for brushed vs high polish etc so you might see in different finishes. 🤝
