Amanico previews Montblanc's 2017 SIHH releases, focusing on three new 1858 models: the Tachymeter Bronze, Automatic, and Automatic Dual Time. The post details their case materials, movements, and design elements, highlighting Montblanc's continued integration of Minerva heritage with modern aesthetics. The Tachymeter, featuring a full bronze case and a Villeret Minerva movement, is presented as a limited edition of 100 pieces.

The 1858 Tachymeter is the only one to have a full bronze case, while the two others have a bronze bezel with a steel case.

These three watches have a 44 mm case.

Two Sellitas movements for the Automatic Dual Time ( MB 29.19 with an in house complication, modular construction ), and the Automatic. Cal 16.29 for the Chronograph, Villeret Minerva movement, as you already know.

The Dual Time has a day night indicator below 12 o' clock.

Here are the pictures which were just sent to me.

- Automatic Dual Time:

Automatic:

1858 Tachymeter: Champagne dial...

And... Red Gold Plated German Silver movement!

As you can see, the decoration of the movement is superb.

The Chronograph is limited to 100 pieces.

Best,

Nicolas

About the Montblanc 1858 Collection Ref. 1858

The Rolex Bubble Back, reference 1858, represents an early example of Rolex's self-winding waterproof wristwatches. This reference is part of the broader Bubble Back family, characterized by its distinctive domed case back designed to accommodate the thicker automatic movement of the era. It showcases Rolex's foundational efforts in developing robust and reliable automatic timepieces for everyday wear, laying groundwork for future Oyster Perpetual models.

This particular reference features an 18k white gold case, measuring 38mm in diameter. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal, protecting a silver dial. The watch is powered by an automatic movement, specifically the Boucheron 1858 caliber, offering a power reserve of 42 hours. The fixed bezel and leather strap complete the watch's classic presentation.

For collectors, the reference 1858 holds interest as an early and relatively rare iteration within the Bubble Back series, especially in white gold. Its larger case size for the period also makes it appealing to modern tastes. The presence of a date complication adds to its functionality, distinguishing it from simpler time-only Bubble Back models and highlighting Rolex's early integration of practical features.

I am not sure about the date...

in the inner circle, but the other two kick most of the boxes. The size is slightly big for my wrist but the bronze is very much in fashion. Best Edward

The date is a no go for me. Without, it would have been much better, according to my taste, at least. [nt]
