Amanico's Montblanc 1858 Tachymeter celebrates its tenth anniversary, marking a decade since its acquisition in Hamburg. His original post delves into the personal connection and horological appreciation for this significant timepiece, particularly highlighting the exceptional Caliber 16.29. This retrospective offers valuable insights into long-term ownership and the enduring appeal of a modern classic.
A belated 10th birthday to my 1858 Tachymeter! Indeed, indeed, I picked it on the 9th of March... 2016 in Hamburg, Germany, at the Montblanc Boutique. It was an important watch for me, I wanted it to be an important moment, too.
So I could visit the Montblanc Headquarter, which was not a good idea, as I could also see some terrific Montblanc pens, too...
Well, my love affair for this watch was born some months before, with some discussions and first unofficial photos sent to me way before the announcement at the SIHH. When I saw it in person at the SIHH, I knew I wanted it and arranged a pick in Germany two months after.
Time flies too fast, but the love affair is getting stronger and stronger for this watch, despite the only flaw of this watch, its too " simple " or " basic " case.
The dial is very much my taste, the hands, too but the true raison d'Γͺtre of this watch is on the back side, the wonderful Cal 16.29 whose size is very generous, as generous as its balance wheel and finishings. At this price point, and even at a much higher price, it is hard to find something of such a quality.
During these last ten years, this is the watch I wore the most, and this is also the watch I photographed the most... Incredible.
I once had an issue with it, quickly fixed. This issue apart, only happy moments, with it...
Funnily, it also became one of my few " lucky " watch!
Needless to say, it is here to stay in my collection.
Happy 10th, 1858 Tachymeter!
Best,
Nicolas
