Mahesh's original post shines a spotlight on Montblanc's impressive 1858 Split Second chronograph, particularly highlighting the Minerva 16.31 movement. He draws a compelling lineage from the beloved 1858 Tachymeter and the unique 2019 Only Watch edition, emphasizing Montblanc's consistent delivery of value and horological prowess. This article delves into the community's reception of this significant release, exploring both its aesthetic appeal and technical merits.

we see a lot of love for the Montblanc 1858 Tachymeter with the Minerva Cal 16.29...wonderfully finished manually wound monopusher Chrono.

I’ve tried this timepiece & it is undeniably impressive!

Then the '2019 Only Watch’ – Titanium Split Seconds Monopusher Chrono with a Agate Stone dial

And now…Montblanc packs value again - the 1858 Split Second with BLUE ENAMEL + Minerva 16,31 Movement...in Titanium Gr5

the heart…I love the movement, rattrapante chronograph with two column wheels and lateral clutch !

Impressively finished too...

Finally the face of the watch – blue enamel grand feu with splash of color & luminous numerals...

While 44mm case is on the higher side…It justifies the space for the pocket watch movement and it is a LE 100 !

Personally I feel it has packed very good value and puts the watch forward, not necessarily the brand…

What do you think ?

Best,

Mahesh.,

About the Montblanc 1858 Collection Ref. 1858

The Rolex Bubble Back, reference 1858, represents an early example of Rolex's self-winding waterproof wristwatches. This reference is part of the broader Bubble Back family, characterized by its distinctive domed case back designed to accommodate the thicker automatic movement of the era. It showcases Rolex's foundational efforts in developing robust and reliable automatic timepieces for everyday wear, laying groundwork for future Oyster Perpetual models.

This particular reference features an 18k white gold case, measuring 38mm in diameter. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal, protecting a silver dial. The watch is powered by an automatic movement, specifically the Boucheron 1858 caliber, offering a power reserve of 42 hours. The fixed bezel and leather strap complete the watch's classic presentation.

For collectors, the reference 1858 holds interest as an early and relatively rare iteration within the Bubble Back series, especially in white gold. Its larger case size for the period also makes it appealing to modern tastes. The presence of a date complication adds to its functionality, distinguishing it from simpler time-only Bubble Back models and highlighting Rolex's early integration of practical features.

I am very reasonable and accept a failure can happen with any brand or product. But I also count on a reasonable service process to restore faith and correctly address the issues, and in my case, it did just the opposite. I would never, ever purchase any Montblanc product again.

I agree with you, certain experiences like this can put an enthusiast off...I hope Montblanc takes efforts in right direction to restore your faith.

Everybody here knows how much kind of watches exist. The MB 1858 is a watch that is typical a time peace i like. Out of 1000 sands on the globe. So i am glad to celebrate them. Minerva, i say, this is chicken skin on everything.

in deed, it is hard to find such a level of movement finish even in high-end manually wound chronos !

Too much like the 2019 only watch. It’s fine for the buyers of this new one but not good for the only watch owner from last year. I feel Montblanc has yet again spoiled the exclusivity of the 1859 chrono collection.
