Joenghenry's acquisition of the Montblanc 1858 Monopusher Chronograph with the green dial highlights the enduring appeal of limited edition timepieces and the unique journey collectors often undertake. His post not only celebrates a personal milestone but also delves into a technical query about the Minerva 13.21 caliber, a detail that resonates with enthusiasts of vintage-inspired chronographs.

Dear All,
Finally pulled the trigger to acquire this beautiful MB-Minerva 40mm monopusher chrono today.
I first came across this beauty and met the MB boutique manager back in 2018, however I couldn’t make up my mind to get it.
We kept in touch and I was kindly invited by the manager to attend various local events of MB, which I was impresssed.
When I finally decided to acquire it, obviously all 100 pieces had been sold out, either in boutique or AD.
Somehow the Manager contacted me that one remaining piece is available from the manufacture, and I am pleasantly surprised to find out the LE number matches a very special year of me, the year I graduated.
The final outcome is obvious, it’s on my wrist now.

May I ask the fellow owner of this time piece, does it have stop-second function? As mine doesn’t, and I believe it should be normal for an old designed caliber likes this Minerva 13.21. But I couldn’t find this info on its user manual and elsewhere.

Thank you for your kind input.

Best, Henry

About the Montblanc 1858 Collection Ref. 1858

The Rolex Bubble Back, reference 1858, represents an early example of Rolex's self-winding waterproof wristwatches. This reference is part of the broader Bubble Back family, characterized by its distinctive domed case back designed to accommodate the thicker automatic movement of the era. It showcases Rolex's foundational efforts in developing robust and reliable automatic timepieces for everyday wear, laying groundwork for future Oyster Perpetual models.

This particular reference features an 18k white gold case, measuring 38mm in diameter. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal, protecting a silver dial. The watch is powered by an automatic movement, specifically the Boucheron 1858 caliber, offering a power reserve of 42 hours. The fixed bezel and leather strap complete the watch's classic presentation.

For collectors, the reference 1858 holds interest as an early and relatively rare iteration within the Bubble Back series, especially in white gold. Its larger case size for the period also makes it appealing to modern tastes. The presence of a date complication adds to its functionality, distinguishing it from simpler time-only Bubble Back models and highlighting Rolex's early integration of practical features.

Actually the generic user manual did not include the manual winding chronograph at all. Best, Henry

The tactile feeing of activating, stopping and resetting of chronograph is also top-notch, very gentle yet well defined, on par with 5270. One more lume shot.

including all movements of all lines and also with the 13.21 - check with your boutique manager and they can order one for sure
