Gen 1 Chrono, model 401.031 from 2004. Caliber 951.0. *By far* the best looking caliber in my whole collection....and I stare at it every time I put the watch on.

Thank you once again everyone for your input in my previous thread.

Miloš

About the A. Lange and Söhne 1815 Chronograph Mens 18k Rose Gold Black dial - Leather - Crocodile Brown Ref. 401.031

The A. Lange & Söhne Datograph, reference 401.031, represents the inaugural generation of the brand's flyback chronograph with a large date display. Introduced in 1999, this reference established a new benchmark for complicated chronographs, notable for its meticulously finished movement visible through a sapphire caseback and its distinctive dial layout featuring the oversized date aperture at 12 o'clock and subsidiary registers for continuous seconds and jumping minutes. It quickly became a cornerstone of the A. Lange & Söhne collection, showcasing the manufacture's technical prowess in chronograph design.

The 401.031 features a 39mm platinum case, housing the manual-wind caliber L951.0. This movement is celebrated for its intricate architecture, including a column wheel control, a flyback function, and a precisely jumping minute counter. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on both the front and back, allowing for an unobstructed view of the hand-finished movement. It offers a power reserve of 36 hours, consistent with its focus on mechanical precision and traditional watchmaking.

This reference appeals to collectors who value mechanical complexity and traditional German watchmaking aesthetics. Its robust construction and sophisticated movement design position it as a significant piece within the realm of high horology chronographs. The 401.031 is recognized for its balanced proportions and the clarity of its black dial, making it a highly regarded example of A. Lange & Söhne's commitment to technical innovation and artisanal finishing.
