Regardless of everything that little flame of love for Lange is still there. Which one would you pick ? The ref 1815 - 401.031 first generation or the 404.035 - mighty double split.

About the A. Lange and Söhne 1815 Chronograph Mens 18k Rose Gold Black dial - Leather - Crocodile Brown Ref. 401.031

The A. Lange & Söhne Datograph, reference 401.031, represents the inaugural generation of the brand's flyback chronograph with a large date display. Introduced in 1999, this reference established a new benchmark for complicated chronographs, notable for its meticulously finished movement visible through a sapphire caseback and its distinctive dial layout featuring the oversized date aperture at 12 o'clock and subsidiary registers for continuous seconds and jumping minutes. It quickly became a cornerstone of the A. Lange & Söhne collection, showcasing the manufacture's technical prowess in chronograph design.

The 401.031 features a 39mm platinum case, housing the manual-wind caliber L951.0. This movement is celebrated for its intricate architecture, including a column wheel control, a flyback function, and a precisely jumping minute counter. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on both the front and back, allowing for an unobstructed view of the hand-finished movement. It offers a power reserve of 36 hours, consistent with its focus on mechanical precision and traditional watchmaking.

This reference appeals to collectors who value mechanical complexity and traditional German watchmaking aesthetics. Its robust construction and sophisticated movement design position it as a significant piece within the realm of high horology chronographs. The 401.031 is recognized for its balanced proportions and the clarity of its black dial, making it a highly regarded example of A. Lange & Söhne's commitment to technical innovation and artisanal finishing.

But question is, why limit yourself to just these two? I think the rose gold black dial combo is visually very attractive, and also circumvents the issue with the earlier Datograph in platinum that could feel top heavy. Rose gold 1815 or Datograph would probably be my choice, but personally I tend to gravitate towards white metals — don’t want my watches to be overly eye catching

If you have a “simple” Patek chrono, perhaps the 1815 might have trouble to get its spot... the DS Will always be unique! Dirk

So if your wrist can wear it, the Double Split is the one.

Do you have the wrist to support the Double Split?

Once you go DS you will never think what if or other chrono movement. Perhaps maybe for TS and only TS

.... Having said that, you can't go wrong with any Lange chrono.
