Nicolas (amanico) initiates a compelling discussion comparing two generations of the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph: the original 1999 model and the 2012 'Up/Down' version. His post highlights the key differences in power reserve, case size, and dial aesthetics, inviting the community to weigh in on which iteration they prefer and why. This comparison remains a cornerstone debate for Lange enthusiasts.

It just looks and feel better!
I like the II, IV, X on the original.. and the newer power reserve indicator breaks the dato triangle.. But the original is too TOP heavy..
This is also the same for their Datograph Perpetual, which otherwise will be my choice to compete with the 5270/5970s. Also I believe you need a deployant for this Dato or it will not wear well. The 1815 WG I have is already quite heavy so I can imagine wearing these Datos will cast a print of my wrist
That’s what pushed me to the Up/Down despite the larger size.
I like the smaller case. IMHO
It still remains one of my all time favorite watches. That this time around will not leave my collection.
