Emmanuel, known as quattro on WatchProSite, delves into the elusive A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret Moonphase, a reference introduced in 2004 and discontinued in 2009. His original post highlights the scarcity of high-quality images for this 'rare bird' and showcases stunning examples in pink gold and yellow gold, including a unique variant with a Wellendorf bracelet. Emmanuel's exploration prompts a discussion on whether this lesser-known model, produced only in colored gold, might be a hidden gem awaiting rediscovery by collectors.

The A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret Moonphase, intorduced in 2004 and discontinued in 2009 is a very rare bird and finding nice photos of it is difficult.

Concluding thought

I have never seen the Cabaret in person, let alone the Moonphase version, so I can't really form an opinion on what I would think of it in real life.

But I find the photos appealing, and I even wonder if I don't prefer the Moonphase version to the classic version with small seconds.

Of course, since the Moonphase version was only ever made in colored gold, it will never get the same level of interest as the white gold or platinum versions.

But personally, I like colored gold, and I wonder if this watch might be one of those true hidden gems just waiting to be rediscovered.

About the A. Lange and Söhne Cabaret Moonphase 18kt Rose Gold Ref. 118.032

The A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret Moonphase, reference 118.032, was introduced in 2004 and discontinued in 2009. This particular reference is distinguished by its rectangular case and moon phase complication, offering a distinct aesthetic within the brand's portfolio, which is more commonly associated with round cases. It represents a period where A. Lange & Söhne explored more varied case shapes while maintaining its commitment to traditional Saxon watchmaking.

The watch features an 18kt rose gold case measuring 25.5 mm by 36.3 mm, excluding the lugs, with a thickness of 9.1 mm. It is powered by the manual-winding caliber L931.5, a shaped movement specifically designed to fit the rectangular case. The dial is silver, protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and the watch is fitted with a brown leather strap.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a less common A. Lange & Söhne model with a unique case shape and a sophisticated complication. Its limited production run and the bespoke nature of its movement contribute to its rarity and desirability in the secondary market. The Cabaret Moonphase stands as an example of the brand's technical and design versatility.

I haven't seen on in person yet, but based on photos it might well be my favorite line too. Best, Emmanuel

I think the case design with its levels really adds to the overall look and separates it from a lot of other rectangular watches as does the correctly shaped movement. I much prefer it on a leather strap as I think the bracelet makes it a little too loud and showy. Marc

And I'm fully with you concerning the bracelet. Best, Emmanuel
