In this insightful piece, WatchProSite's own amanico, known to the community as Nicolas, shares his deeply personal journey through collecting A. Lange & Söhne timepieces. He reflects on the evolution of his 'dream collection,' highlighting both past acquisitions and aspirational models. Nicolas's narrative provides a valuable perspective on the emotional connection collectors form with these horological masterpieces, inviting readers to consider their own collecting philosophies.

Lange is a brand which made me dream since my early days in collecting watches.

I could score some, such as the Datograph:

The 1815 Moon Phase Emil Lange:

And the Langematik Anniversary.

That was my " happy threesome " before the Datograph and the 1815 Moonphase Emil Lange left my collection...

The 4th I wanted to add was this Cabaret in platinum... Maybe one day,

And the 5th was the Lange One in platinum with its awesome black dial.

In the more recent, one is killing me, this Richard Lange Jumping Seconds, in white gold.

It is hard to rebuild my Lange Collection, so I think that I would happily end with the Cabaret and the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds, to be added to my 1815 Moonphase Emil Lange.

What about your Lange collection? Your wished and your reality?

Best,

Nicolas

About the A. Lange and Söhne Emil Lange Ref. 1815

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.

This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.

The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.

You are picking some of the nicest Langes and tempting people with them by your photography skills! My reality and my wish list are pretty well aligned right now. There are certain other Lange pieces that I might like to own (such as that Cabaret Darth you showed, or a platinum Tourbillon PLM, or a ZW minute repeater, or a simple 301.021 yellow gold Langematik without date), but I don't crave them. And I am still sorry that some of these pieces are no longer in your collection.

I currently have this Annual Calendar in white gold. In addition I have this Striking Time. And I’m afraid to say I have your WG Richard Lange Jumping Seconds inbound while I’m writing this - just waiting on shipping clearance.

The rose gold PLM with white enamel dial. Simply love that watch. A boutique 1815 chrono would also be high on the list.

Just the ZW for me ... this is the ONLY Lange that gave me sleepless nights for many years! I do like the concept of Lange 31 ... you need a separate key to wind it --- how cool is that!!! Although, I don't like the current dial layout so much ... hopefully they'll make it a bit more interesting looking if/when they update it! Cheers my friend! 🍻

Jumping seconds is very underrated. This and Zeitwerk for me are the most interesting Lange designs by far. Lange could take more risks and push further with new concepts. They have the ability, but maybe they think it doesn't make business sense?
