Amanico presents a challenging 'Torquemada's Saturday Torture,' asking collectors to choose between two highly desirable A. Lange & Söhne platinum limited editions: the 1815 Moonphase Emil Lange and the Langematik Anniversary. This article explores the nuanced preferences and passionate arguments from the community regarding these iconic timepieces.
Let's have some painful fun, and try to choose between these 2 beauties, the 1815 Moonphase E.Lange, or the Langematik Annivesary.
To me, these are the two most desirable Lange ever made, which combinate very well together since one is manual, the 1815, an the other is automatic, the Anniversary.
One enamel, one extra accurate moonphase, two platinum cases, 35, 9 mm ( The 1815 ) or 37 mm ( The Anniversary ).
Both extremely charming. Both tough to find, even if the Anniversary has been produced in bigger numbers ( 500 versus 150 ).
The 1815 Moonphase Emil Lange:
The Langematik Anniversary:
Now comes the Torquemada's game... If you had to choose only one, which one would it be?
Tough choice, isn't it?

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.
This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.
The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.
Anniv before you can say pplater ;) D
both are mandatory! But the Emil wins by a mile. The black dial is magnificent with its markers. It is a really unique dial watch. I have nothing else like it. The anniversary, while enamel, and the unique red 12 make it desirable, but there are other enamel dial watches with sub seconds at six. So, for a totally unique piece, very limited, with such high quality finish, the Emil takes the prize. My two cents! Best Joe
Both sums in a nice way Lange's Talent in watchmaking. They also belong to a bygone era... Which is a tad sad. Best, Joe. Nicolas
.... The combination of the enamel dial, blue hands, and of course the 'bleeding' XII makes the Anniversary a breathtaking icon.
If you have the Emil, you will need to have the Anniversary and vice versa. If you have neither, start with one and patiently wait for the other. :) I would like to have both at the same time to avoid any conflict - in my dreams.:) Best fernando
but maybe the Emil just win it by a whisker for me. Regards Ian
