Blomman Mr Blue provides an initial look at Girard-Perregaux's BaselWorld 2016 collection, celebrating the brand's 225th anniversary with several significant releases. This post highlights the highly anticipated return of the Laureato and a tribute to the iconic La Esmeralda, offering readers a first glimpse into GP's strategic direction for its anniversary year. It sets the stage for deeper discussions on these novelties and their impact on the brand's legacy.
Friends,
This year is the 225 th anniversary of Girard-Perregaux!
To celebrate this Girard-Perregaux will release several anniversary watches of which some will be in a limited series of 225 pieces.
One of these watches is the Laureato 2016!
225 pieces with Silver dial and 225 pieces with Blue dial.
La Esmeralda – Girard-Perregaux pays a special tribute to the original La Esmeralda Three Golden Bridges Tourbillon that won the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889.
The Chamber of Wonders – The Earth is not enough!
GP follows up their last year’s wonders with a new trio of miniature work of art.
This time the Manufacture leaves earth and takes us into space.
Cat’s Eye Majestic – The iconic ladies watch gets a new “direction” and size.
Having the Cat’s Eye shape on the high end gives the watch a brand new look and feel.
Girard-Perregaux 1966 Skeleton – An open heart creation in Pink Gold and black.
These watches are some of the highlights of this year’s collection but far from all!
Soon I will start to post all the official press releases and after that I will return to each watch with more Live Shots and my thoughts and impressions on each watch.
Much more to come!
Looking forward to read your input on the novelties!
Best

This model showcases the intricate mechanical elements typically hidden, providing a direct view into the watch's horological craftsmanship. It stands as a testament to Girard-Perregaux's capability in skeletonization, applying this complex art form to a classic case design.
The watch features a case, typically crafted from precious metal, housing the in-house Calibre GP01800-0006. This automatic movement is meticulously finished, with bridges and plates skeletonized and decorated to enhance visual depth and appeal. The transparent case back further allows for appreciation of the movement's construction and finishing. The crystal protecting the dial is sapphire, ensuring clarity and scratch resistance.
For collectors, the 1966 Skeleton appeals to those who value both traditional watchmaking aesthetics and the technical artistry of an openworked movement. It offers a blend of classic proportions with a contemporary display of mechanics, making it a distinctive piece within the Girard-Perregaux lineup. The shared base movement with other skeletonized models, such as the Laureato Skeleton, highlights the brand's modular approach to high-end calibers.
Looking forward to see more and share some discussions on the novelties. There are certainly some highlights. Best, CC
And the Laureato is gorgeous. But a limited edition? Why? This is too good a general-purpose watch to constrain its availability so much. --Rick
Please! ;-) It's rather nice... The Esmeralda will keep me up at night, too. Sigh. Best E.
Very good design there by GP.
a great, dark skeleton watch, maybe the most handsome one. Thanks for the infos. Best Moritz
