blomman Mr Blue introduces the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton, a highly anticipated release from SIHH 2017. This post unveils the watch's full design, highlighting its 42mm case and the Calibre GP01800-0006 movement. He explores how GP has integrated this skeletonized movement into the Laureato case, creating a distinct aesthetic compared to its 1966 Skeleton predecessor.
Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton
Friends,
Finally, the teasing is over!
We now get to see in full glory what Girard-Perregaux has been posting in their IG account for the past week.
We get the full meaning of Curved, Sculptural, Integrated, Octagonal, Light, Sophisticated, Chiseled and Translucent.
The Laureato Skeleton!
The case is the 42mm case, 10.88 mm thin.
The watch is equipped with the Calibre GP01800-0006, same base movement used in the 1966 Skeleton.
Even if same, the character and the depth of the “dial” is very different!
Due to the thicker case and bezel, the minute track is now one level above the movement compared with the 1966 version.
The stronger hands and indexes also change the character of the watch.
I am really looking forward to see this one in real!
Best

The watch is released in two versions – Stainless Steel and 18 K Pink Gold

Normally we do not post raw press releases here, but I will include a part here which I think explains perfectly the thoughts behind this watch!
It also show Mr. Stefano Macaluso’s architectural background and source for inspiration.
“Solids and voids. Lines and curves. Interior and exterior. While these concerns are very much those of an architect, they undeniably define the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton. As the latest addition to the Laureato family, entirely rethought and richer than ever, this watch with a metal bracelet and a skeleton movement is an exercise in horological architecture.”
“Sensual rhythm of the curves of the Laureato Skeleton give unique strength to an openworked watch in which the content harmoniously matches the container”
An exterior and an interior:
“Much like the Guggenheim Museum in New York, by Frank Lloyd Wright, this interior and this exterior are engaged in constant dialogue.”
Solids and voids:
“Alternating between the structural framework and inhabitable spaces, like the interior of a baroque-style Italian cathedral such as St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.”
Airy and yet perfectly solid:
“Like the Gateway Arch of St. Louis, Missouri, designed by Eero Saarinen.”
Suspended hour-markers:
“Like the Place de l’Etoile in Paris, they elegantly distribute the information provided by the watch.”

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato, reference 81015, represents a contemporary iteration of the brand's integrated bracelet sports watch. Positioned as a versatile luxury timepiece, it bridges the gap between casual wear and formal occasions, embodying a distinct design language within the competitive segment.
This reference typically features a 42mm case, often crafted from stainless steel, with a distinctive octagonal bezel set upon a circular base. It houses an in-house automatic movement, such as the Caliber GP01800, providing a power reserve of approximately 54 hours. The dial often presents a 'Clous de Paris' hobnail pattern, complemented by baton hour markers and hands.
The Laureato 81015 is relevant to collectors seeking a modern interpretation of a classic design. Its integrated bracelet construction and robust movement offer a compelling alternative in the luxury sports watch category, appealing to those who appreciate Girard-Perregaux's heritage and technical capabilities.
the video shows its amazing beauty. A worthy successor to the 3 sapphire bridge Laureato, CC
.....pushing it on size for me, but I like it
Probably in the list of architectural inspirations they forgot to mention another octagonal skeleton watch from another brand? 😉 Mo
100M WR makes it a true sports watch. Love the openwork design! Looks like a beautiful case finish from the IG pics. No date and restrained text to avoid ruining the harmony. The movement looks in proportion to the case. My only quibble seems to be a smidgen -too-short hour hand at a certain angle. Seeing it in the metal might resolve it. I hope you do a hands-on review soon so we can see more pics and your thoughts. Thanks!
So it is as we surmised... Looks pretty good! The size is a bit large for me - and there will be the inevitable comparisons with another watch, I'm afraid. Speaking of which, I wonder what sort of price point this will be pitched at... Best E.
I'm not so impressed, likely because they are following the same path of other competitors, RO above all. Nothing wrong, i really appreciate their efforts in widening the references, but i like much more the strap version, which IMHO achieves an unparalleled elegance and balance.
