Aquaracer1, a seasoned collector, initiates a compelling discussion on selecting a 'Go Anywhere, Do Anything' (GADA) timepiece. His post, featuring the Rolex Explorer I 114270 and the Omega Aqua Terra green teak, invites the community to weigh in on the merits of these two highly regarded watches. This article synthesizes the collective wisdom and personal experiences shared, offering valuable insights for anyone navigating a similar horological decision.

You are considering your next GADA, and already have the bases covered for the rest of your rotation. Assume they are about the same price pre-owned. 1) Rolex Explorer I 114270, very good condition, comes complete with Rolex box, and Rolex service card dated a few years ago. 2) Omega Aqua Terra green teak, 38 mm, near mint condition, comes complete with Omega box, and Omega AD warranty card dated a few months ago. Which do you choose and why? 🙂🍻

Rolex just has that aspect to it, it carries a greater meaning socially, whereas the Omega is unburdened and will just deliver, with a free and easy feeling! Now without the numerals and Explorer dial any of OPs could take the crown 👑 but still I don’t know 🤷‍♂️

I’ve owned several Seamasters, a few of which have been 2500 and 8500 AT generations. White dial / blue indices , Skyfall, and later blue dial respectively - all 38 mm. Hard to fault as a GADA. The only thing I’d change about this watch, to make it more wearable, is the case thickness , making it a mm or 2 slimmer. Regarding the competitor, from the House of Geneve, I have never owned a 36 mm Neo-Vintage Explorer I, only a modern DJ, Sub, OP 36 and Explorer 39 mm - So I am curious!

the Rolex is a classic design and all purpose watch, that looks great and is appropriate with any outfit. The Omega with that beautiful green and textured dial is perhaps more unique and I know you like green. If investment is a factor, then the Rolex wins otherwise the Omega is the conversation starter…yes, I know…it’s not an answer. Can’t wait to see what you decide!

Nice to hear this well measured comment. And yes, that’s not an answer, and no, we’re not letting you off the hook that easy in this Vote! 🙂🙂 As of this moment, I’d have to agree that the AT is more of a conversation starter (such as in your series, A Man And His Watch), whereas the Explorer I is just a timeless classic, but may be less likely to be noticed because it’s an under the radar piece. That last part by the way is more than fine with me. I’m not the type of guy who screams, “Hey! Look

And another thing about the quartz is that it’s a fully brushed bracelet, which makes it even more gada I suppose. I never sought out mine, I saw it and tried it on and immediately bought it, very reasonable price for the same quality exterior as any omega and high accuracy of a couple seconds a month. No longer made but they are out there
