One of the biggest surprises during IGOTT2 was the worldwide premier of the new Bulgari Daniel Roth Grande Sonnerie Perpetual Calendar.  As Ping has mentioned earlier in her report ( please click here ) it was very exciting to hear about this announcement since we were both visiting Baselworld in April as guests of Bulgari and had seen it up close.  However we could not post much information on this watch because the official announcement was scheduled for later this year.  So we were all very happy and excited to find out that Bulgari would make this first public announcement during IGOTT2!  And even more surprising was that Bulgari had brought Mr. Pascal Legendre, a grande sonnerie watch expert to join us during IGOTT2 and to make a full presentation with the actual DR Grande Sonnerie Perpetual Calendar watch.

This is the third grande sonnerie in the collection of the Bulgari brand and is made of 1057 components (923 components in the movement) with 22 complications. Instead of me trying to give you all the information about this wonderful new complication, here's a video of Mr. Guido Terreni leading us through a translation with Mr. Pascal Legendre of the demonstration of the movement:

Thanks to DRMW for a few of these photos during the presentation while I was making the video.  Our fourth session during the Bulgari presentation was a very informative Question and Answer session hosted by Dr. Melvin Teillol-Foo (aka MTF) and Mr. Guido Terreni.  All kinds of questions and comments were raised, including inquires related to after-sales service, the development of the P10 X-Pro and very technical questions about the grande sonnerie:

My personal favorite part of the presentation was the experience of walking up to the watchmaker table, meeting Mr. Pascal Legendre and see the Daniel Roth Grande Sonnerie Perpetual Calendar up close:

Here's a closeup of the perpetual calendar module, I couldn't believe how thin it was:

The grande sonnerie base movement inside a test case with the perpetual calendar module separated:

I learned that Mr. Legendre actually makes the sonnerie gongs himself.  What was really cool was that a fellow PuristS had asked about the gongs and he disassembled it right on the spot and gave us a full explanation of the process:

There was a large crowd around the watchmaker table and we were all freely able to pick up the grande sonnerie and activate the mechanism and listen to the chiming.  Even with all the activity in the room, the grande sonnerie was easily audible.  I'll post a video on this later:

Looking over the shoulder of Mr. Legendre while we all watch him assemble the gongs:

And a few pics of the fully assemble Bulgari Daniel Roth Grande Sonnerie Perpetual Calendar.  It has the signature Daniel Roth elliptical case and was rather thick but still fit nicely on the wrist:

And a few closeups of the movement inside the test case:

Thanks again to everyone at Bulgari for this wonderful presentation.  It was a first time for many in the audience to have hands-on up close and personal experience with a grande sonnerie and to have the actual watchmaker present the movement.  And having the world premiere debut of this 22 complication mechanical marvel at IGOTT2 was a great experience.

The second video posted here is a continuation of the Bulgari presentation of the new Daniel Roth Grande Sonnerie Perpetual Calendar. Mr. Guido Terreni translates for Mr. Pascal Legendre as they go into all the details of the movement. This was really fascinating to have a master watchmaker explain to us exactly how the process works and all the engineering that goes into testing the sound of the tonality and sound of the Westminster chime melody.
