Breitling 2013 Baselworld Collection

Discover Breitling's 2013 Baselworld collection previewed in Los Angeles, featuring new Navitimer Cosmonaute, Unitime Transocean, and Bentley Flying B chronographs, with NHL legend Wayne Gretzky.

I'd like to share a few photos from the Breitling and Westime event held earlier this week for a cocktail reception to preview the latest collection of Breitling and Breitling for Bentley timepieces. The collections were just release during the 2013 Baselworld and we were treated to a close-up look at the new Breitling collection. A special guest in attendance was National Hockey League legend Wayne Gretsky, who is considered by many as 'the greatest hockey player ever' and had played with the Los Angeles Kings during the 1998 to 1996 season.

We arrived at the new Westime location at the center of the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California.

Breitling's close association with Bentley Motors was well represented on the streets and parking lot with several Bentley Continental GT's. These are offered with a 4.0 liter V8 or 6 liter V12 that produces an impressive 567hp and 516ft/lbs of torque paired with a 8 speed quickshift transmission.

And Breitling's association with aviation was reflected everywhere including this coaster with typical WWII airplane nose art:

Several blacksteel watches were shown including this Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute Blacksteet. The movement is the mechanical hand-wound Breitling B02 with a chronograph module and the overall watch is 43mm in diameter with a 13.85mm thickness. The case, bezel, crown and chronograph pushers are made in blacksteel with a flat black color.

The Breitling Unitime Transocean blacksteel chronograph is available with mother-of-pearl and solid black dial options. The blacksteel case is 46mm with a convex glareproored sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters. This is the first time I've seen this worldtime watch and found that the timezone can be adjusted with the crown. The outer edge of the dial has a disc representing different cities in various time zones. The watch is fitted with a Breitling B05 automatic movement that provides a 70 hour power reserve, and is available with the Breitling Ocean Classic blacksteel bracelet with folding clasp.

From the Breitling for Bentley collection, we have the limited edition Bentley Flying B Chronograph with a Midnight Carbon blacksteel case and central carbon fiber dial. This Flying B is fitted with Breitling Calibre 44B chronograph movement with a large aperture calendar display.

Also new is the Breitling Transocean GMT Chronograph available in a 43mm stainless steel case. Visually the watch looks a little bit bigger than the size indicates due to the thinner bezel and the sapphire crystal going out to the edges. The red GMT hand and red 24 hour scale on the outer edge of the dial makes it easy to read the second time zone.

Another new addition is the Breitling Transocean 38mm with a diamond bezel (also offered without diamonds) and silver, black or blue dial.

The Transocean is fitted with a brightly polished Air Racer stainless steel bracelet. The diamond dial and the shiny bracelet makes this a great choice for women as a fashion accessory.

One of 25 limited editions is this Breitling Transocean 1461 Annual Calendar in 18K Rose Gold. At first I didn't recognize and differences between this watch compared to regular production 1461.

But looking at it closer (compared to the black dialed regular production 1461) I noticed that the LE has a season indicator subdial at the 12 o'clock position and 52 week scale in the moonphase subdial at the 3 o'clock position. Another nice touch is the leap year subdial indicator at the 9 o'clock position.

And the special guest of the evening, NHL legend Wayne Gretsky. Mr. Gretsky made his initial debut as Breitling Brand Ambassador in 2011 and has been featured in several ad campaigns.
