Blomman Mr Blue shares his impressions of a Breguet Classic Complications Extra-Thin Tourbillon, focusing on its innovative Caliber 581DR. He critically examines the dial layout and praises the peripheral winding mass, which allows for the watch's remarkably slim 7mm rose gold case. This post offers a detailed look at a significant technical achievement in modern watchmaking.
Hi,
Just wanted to share a watch I got to see last week.
Breguet – Classic complications, Extra-thin tourbillon automatic movement with power reserve.

I was not allowed to remove the plastic on this one, but I think it might be worthwhile to share this one anyway.
The face is not really what intrigues me on this watch…
Honestly, I think the power reserve gets too much attention here. I would rather have seen a shorter power reserve indicator that didn’t cut into the tourbillon scale.
The off centered giluche dial, very typical Breguet design is beautiful made but I would rather have a look on the backside.

On the caliber 581DR the rotor is located on the outside of the movement alongside the case.
This is what makes it possible for the Rose Gold case to only be 7 mm thick (42 mm in diameter).

Here is another view; you see the rotor moves outside the movement.

What do you think? Is this the future for flat automatic movements?

Secondly, I agree with you that the power reserve is taking too much attention. (Thirdly, till now I have not really understood what kind of added value tourbilliion brings. Best, Kari
I am in the camp of NO. You cannot beat this one. Best, Nicolas
But, my budget will never allow one... Agree, this one would have been better in 38 - 40 mm. Best Blomman
I agree that I would rather see manual movements on high-end pieces... But I fear we are a dying bread... As for the watch, I would prefer a one color case! But yes, it is stunning! Best Blomman
indicator...and not only on that model from Breguet Easily it becomes their signature I must say that I'm in manual wind camp in high end watches Yours
Sometime you have to bend your rules for the "greater good"! ;) Best Blomman
