Aris d shares his journey to acquiring the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15300, a quest driven by the challenges of sourcing the 15202 Jumbo and finding the 15400/15500 too large. His post highlights the enduring appeal of the 15300's proportions and design, resonating with many collectors who value its closer ties to the original Royal Oak aesthetic.

A couple of years ago I tried to source a 15202. I was 'on the list' (fooly me) and patiently waited. After I understood that it was not going to happen and I didn't want to pay the premium, I looked for alternatives. But both the 15400 and the new 15500 seemed large to me. So I was after the 15300, which is very close to the original. Today I managed to get one and I am deeply in love. The design and the quality of the whole watch is indeed sublime. A keeper for sure. About the Audemars Piguet Ref. 15500

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak reference 15500ST represents a significant evolution within the Royal Oak collection, succeeding the 15400ST. This reference introduced a redesigned dial layout and an updated in-house movement, signaling a modernization of the core three-hand Royal Oak offering. It maintains the distinctive Gerald Genta-designed aesthetic, characterized by its octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet, while refining internal mechanics and visual balance.

This model features a 41mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 10.4mm, ensuring a balanced presence on the wrist. It is powered by the Audemars Piguet Caliber 4302, an automatic movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a substantial power reserve of 70 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and is water-resistant to 50 meters, providing practical durability for daily wear.

Collector interest in the 15500ST often centers on its improved movement and the subtle dial refinements, which include a repositioned date window and the removal of the "Automatic" designation. It appeals to collectors seeking a contemporary interpretation of the Royal Oak with enhanced technical specifications. The reference is available in various dial colors, including blue, grey, and black, offering options within its established design language.

I had a white face I had to sell years ago. I now regret having done so...

Don't let the cat out of the bag, but (to me) the 15300 is the one to get. Let others chase after the others. You did good. Wear her in the best of health!! -John

I'm amazed at the current 15300 prices. That's a tough pill to swallow knowing where they come from and were only 10 months ago.

the 15300 is a true gem ! I went thru exactly the same path as you. Couldn’t get the 15202 ... waited and waited. 15400 too big ... Eventually I managed to find a blue dial 15300 in mint condition just few months back and I got it. Yes it’s a big premium over their original prices even for the blue dial 15300 now but still a bargain over the blue dial 15202 ! Most importantly is to enjoy our 15300s. Big congrats once again and enjoy in the best of health. Mine says hi here Cheers Robin

„I am probably stepping on toes of purists here, and I am a bit amazed myself as well, that this watch gives me this impression. Given the price of the 15300 – market price euro versus approx 8500 euro for a 15202 – I don’t know if I would care enough for the caliber 2121 of the 15202 to pay almost 2000 euro premium for it. I think I prefer a case and bracelet that are more convenient and wearable than having the cult version (15202) with a movement that is more sought after.“ Reference:
