The Cartier Santos Shootout

 By: SJX : December 17th, 2010-21:54

Thank you for these

Against the other Cartier watches? - SJX

Mainly its design, but also ...

its in-house calibre. The watch is sporty, yet somewhat classic looking to me (may be due to the roman numbers?).

Classic yet sporty

I first saw the Santos 100 carbon

 By: docsnov : December 18th, 2010-13:50
in a magazine and I loved it immediately. Researching the watch led me to this forum and a renued interest in watches in general. The carbon/rose gold model was my first watch purchase in seven years, and it gets a lot of wrist time. I usually stick with ...

There is a notorious Cartier employee

 By: SJX : December 19th, 2010-03:09
who during dinner parties likes to scratch his Santos 100 Carbon with his house keys to demonstrate its scratch resistance. Last I heard his key got so worn down he couldn't unlock his house door. - SJX PS: Yours is the automatic with rose gold or titaniu...

Rose gold bezel and crown

 By: docsnov : December 19th, 2010-14:50
These pictures are from July shortly after I received the watch. Seven sided crown (It bugs me when I see it described as octagonal, the sapphire is octagonal, but it is only a part of the crown) Upside down blurry wrist shot Power reseverve is in the 40 ...

Ever considered another strap?

 By: SJX : December 19th, 2010-22:20
I think it would look smashing on a grey or black suede crocodile. I will send your feedback on the misdescribed crown. - SJX

I hadn't thought too much about it

 By: docsnov : December 20th, 2010-16:20
but the only thing I don't like about the watch is the strap. The material is fine, as is the clasp. I don't like how the extra length folds back on the inside of the strap. Am I able to get a new one from Cartier? I agree with the colors you suggested, a...

Great article, SJX!

One question, do you know how the Santos Galbee got its name? For whatever reason, I always think of Korean BBQ whenever I hear of that watch (galbi/galbee=BBQ beef shortrib). LOL! These Santos watches are attractive! I especially like the carbon versions...

Galbée means curved, in reference to the curved case.

And now you've reminded me of the Japanese snack cracker "Calbee". LOL. - SJX
