I am a newcomer here. I am considering taking the plunge on an entry level Breguet. I have been to the New York store and after handling and trying on several models, I am struggling not to fall hopelessly in love. I am attracted to the tradition and looks of Classique Breguets. But I find it difficult to find frank discussions of the relative merits of Breguet vs. other top-end brands. The consensus view seems to be that Patek Philippe makes the "best" watches. But is that true? Is Breguet just as good? Are other brands? Would I be smarter to just spend a bit more and get a Patek? After all, in addition looks and a great name, what I really want is a watch that represents the highest expression of the art of mechanical watchmaking, and which will last the rest of my life and beyond. I understand that on this forum I am going to get responses from Breguet loyalists -- and believe me, I am prepared to become a Breguet loyalist. But I'd feel better if I were acting on some evidence rather than just lust. Thoughts and suggestions welcome. LMP
