The wags in this Purist group will probably say I picked this watch for the Friday post because its calendar says "Friday". Happily I only just noticed this as I was clipping the url for the photo. The watch is the Le Brassus Perpetual Tourbillon. For a lot of tourbillons, the mating with a perpetual calendar really does not make a lot of sense. This is because the majority of tourbillons in the world are manual winds. I would venture to say that almost all the collectors who have a tourbillon have more than one watch so that there would be a pretty good chance that the watch would be allowed to wind down, which does to a degree defeat the joy of a perpetual calendar. Happily automatic winding tourbillons are pretty much of a mainstay at Blancpain so that the combination does make a lot of sense. I happen to think that this is a great combination--the usefulness of a perpetual calendar and the visual interest of a tourbillon. There is also one more element that I like. Many perpetuals do not offer a seconds hand. This one does--of course that's what the tourbillon provides. So you have a perpetual that gives you a good visual indication that it is running.
This particular watch is in platinum and is 42mm in diameter (which is the size of all the watches in the Le Brassus Collection).
