Audemars Piguet

Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Chonograph / date power reserve

I have been looking for the last month for my first high end watch and while I have always wanted a Vacheron I have read that AP and Patek are considered the other 2 members of the big 3!    I wondered if I could get others opinions and any info on a couple of models because I believe that they are very cheap in comparison to the offerings from the other two brands and wondered why.

The first is the AP Jules Audemars Chronograph 25859 in steel and the second is the AP Jules Audemars power reserve 25955 in steel.

The first appears to be readily available in new old stock for about £5.5k  and the later for about £7k.  I would assume that a pre-owned model would be a bit less still.   While I realise these are in steel and Vacheron and Patek rarely offer models in steel the AP chrono is visually quite similar to the malte 47120 chrono. Obviously the Vacheron movement must require greater hand finishing?

At the moment I am struggling to find a Vacheron in the classic style with a complication for my budget of about $10k  and these APs appear to be somewhat of a bargin given the manufacturers reputation.  Are these little known gems or would I be buying the black sheep of the AP family?

Many thanks for any help

Hugh
