Just came back from browsing (more like drooling) round one of my local watch shops, which is (un)fortunately just a short elevator ride from my apartment. I chatted with the very helpful and obviously knowledgeable Henry, and requested a best price for a WG 1815 (my current object of desire, a situation which is changing daily). I studied the platinum version the other day, and must admit the WG is my favourite.
I am still searching for my perfect top-notch watch, and have spent many happy hours browsing Blancpains, Vacherons (growing on me daily as well), Audemars (thank you, Thomas
and now Lange.
Anyway, Henry was either not busy or impressed by my encyclopedic knowledge of horribly expensive timepieces
but he offered to show me something special which was not going to be put in the window. He produced a Lange 1 in platinum with a white gold striped dial, apparently limited to 100 pieces, and put it into my hot little hand. He also produced a calculator and told me the price. I didn't drop the watch!
What an outstanding, glorious, work of art. My wife, who is never impressed with my objects of desire, but rather perversely sometimes says "well, I really like the strap", was just smitten instantly when she held it and told me to buy it. We had just had a glorious meal, and she had had a few glasses of decent wine, so I think it was a cumulative effect, but the weight of the piece, the dial, I am lost for further words...
Now totally irresponsible I am not, so decisions will have to wait. In fact, I need to consider all the viable alternatives, so more browsing and discussing is in order, but, and I remember the point of this post now, can anyone fill me in on details of this particular limited edition? Is it a recent issue, and does anyone own one and can tell me about it?
Any info greatly appreciated, 'cause it is one of the nicest things i have seen in a long time.
Thanks...Grant.
