Ressence Type 1 Square - Strap Change
Love the watch, but not the OEM strap. While the 41mm cushion case is relatively large for my wrist (6.75), it is generally comfortable due to its relatively low weight and thin profile. The one negative, though, is the thin cordovan strap that came with the watch. I found I the watch moved around on my wrist too much due to the thinness of the thin strap combined with the strap hole spacing (either too tight or to thin).
This is how the watch looked to start with
New look with the ABP medium brown special tanning replacement
The new strap and tang buckle are so much more comfortable. The watch is now balanced on my wrist and it no longer moves arounds. The new strap is just over 3mm thick (versus 2mm OEM) and uses a straight spring bar (versus curved). This allows the strap to be used on something other than the Ressence. The width is 20mm (the stated lug width).
Overall, I like the new look, but I would have made some tweaks with the new strap based on how the replacement fits. Lesson learned include….
- The 3mm thickness is much better, but I should have had it taper more at the buckle end.
- The 20mm width is a little too much even though the OEM strap measures just under 20mm. I would go with 19mm (19/18mm) if I ordered another new strap. This would allow some of the horizontal lug to show (in keeping with how the OEM strap looks).
I should also note the OEM strap was hard to remove (oversized springboard?), so much so my AD had to remove it for me. While I normally change my own straps, I could not get the curved spring bar to budge. I also tried an aftermarket deployant that I had a home on the watch, but preferred the tang buckle instead. The deployant is cumbersome for winding and setting the watch.
