A. Lange & Söhne

Totally unacceptable

Let us not brush this under the carpet and accept that it would take six months or more to get a watch reparied by a top manufature. We pay serious money to get high end watches from reputed houses based on two things.

1.Expectation of superlative workmanship resulting in very low probability of breakdowns or any material faults.
2. Expectaion of reliable and speedy repair infrastructure to ensure that a customer's enjoyment of a watch is interrruped inly for very brief interval in the event a repair becomes necessary.

To simply begin accepting a a six month service timeline carte blanche is a classic case of apathy and resignation.  To me it would not be a matter of whether the watch was simple or complicated. Each gets sold at a price point and therefore should get assigned to the right repairer adequately allocated for such categories without delays due to staffing issues.

Let us not rationalize by saying that Lange or for that matter any other marquee brand has sold more watches than the last decade and that their maintenance department therefore can be shortstaffed or inadequate. We as collectors ought to rightly expect watch companies to gear up their maintenance act to back up their sales drive.

Would this be acceptable in any other industry?

I think not. Sorry about the rant, but it is time that customers send a message loud and clear instead of accepting poor customer service as a very acceptable thing inthe watch industry.

On a lighter vein, i guess Patek would not be facing too many of the service issues since most collectors keep their pateks in double sealded condition rather than wearing them!!
