Richard Lange Jumping Seconds

Some of you may recall that I was lucky enough to stumble across this timepiece four years ago when I was touring Verona, a week after attending the brand's lavish event at Lake Como (the Concorzo d'Eleganza).

The Richard Lange Jumping Seconds made its debut in 2016 in platinum - in a limited edition of 100 pieces. The regulator dial was modeled after one of the earlier pocket watches - featuring a large second sub dial and two overlapping but smaller hour and minute sub dials. In theory, this enables more precise time reading.

In addition to the unconventional dial layout, the watch is also noteworthy for its ingenious movement (L094.1), which includes both a remontoire and a zero-reset function. The constant force escapement allows the seconds hand to advance by sixty equal steps per minute (hence the name) while the zero-reset mechanism means the seconds hand will automatically revert to zero when the crown is pulled out and start again as soon as it is pressed back in. This facilitates more accurate time setting.

Following the launch of the platinum version, Lange soon introduced a rose gold version and in 2019, a white gold, black dial version, both as regular productions. The latter version was especially well received due to the sharp contrast in color of the dial (black) against the power supply indicator (white/red). The watch has approximately two days of power reserve and the central indicator will turn from white to red when less than 10 hours of energy remain.

Let the pictures speak...

The dial is absolutely poetic.

Thank you for showing. The Richard Lange Jumping Seconds is the watch, that gave me my fiercest internal fight. Dial, movement, case and complication are sublime, but I just couldn't see myself living with the three subdials in that configuration.

As I want to slightly reduce my watch collection, that internal fight has already been enough for me to not buy it, as I've already got 2-3 other watches in mind. Your platinum version is my favorite one.

This watch has a unique place in my my entire collection.

A good reminder of how lucky I have been....that internal struggle sounds familiar.

Legendary!

As usual from you! And a beautiful watch. I very nearly bought one a couple of years ago but it was in Rose Gold and I just didn’t need another RG watch. Platinum, and I would have bought it.
