The New 1815
Hi,
I am considering the purchase of either a Richard Lange (non-PLM) or the new 1815. One factor in the RLs favor is the rate accuracy claimed by Lange and the central seconds hand which I really like. On the other hand, I really like the understated look of the 1815 in white gold. Presently, I am leaning towards the 1815 but am unclear on a few points about the L051.1 movement. For example, one post indicated the balance is free sprung which would be fantastic. I have not, however, been able to find anything official from Lange to corroborate that point. I am also curious about the balance wheel diameter. Based on photos of the movement, I have calculated the diameter to be about 9.26 mm but an official source would be better. A free sprung large diameter balance should make the 1815 a good performer in rate accuracy, perhaps as good as the RL? Lastly, does anyone know when the new 1815 will be available at ADs in the US? Thanks in advance for any info.
Regards

Both the Richard Lange and the New 1815 have a swans neck regulator on the balance. What does a regulator do on a free sprung balance and how does it work? Are there any diagrams available? Thanks again!
