Stop Lever.
We all know It is a philosophy at Lange to finish every part, visible or not, to the highest standard. What I personally didn’t know is the level of thought that goes into every component.
The Stop Lever (Stoppfeder) has 3 different finishing techniques applied to it: straight graining on the top and bottom, grinding on the sides and interestingly, polishing on the tip that comes in contact with the balance wheel.
The reason for the polished tip is technical: To avoid damaging the balance wheel as it’s entirely polished. Having a coarse finish on the tip would cause damage due to the force applied to stop the wheel.
