good system, but will stop the use of after market straps

perhaps thats what they want. we increasingly see companies bringing out watches with unusual and original ways of fixing straps to the watch. perhaps they do it deliberately so that we will or can only buy their straps. just a thought. Graham

Apart from Panerai...

the revenues from strap and bracelet replacement are not significant to the bottom line, when offset by the logistics and inventory opportunity costs. The main business is to sell the watches and not the replacement straps chosen for aesthetic or personal...

Agreed.

We on this forum know what we're getting into when we buy one of those things (which is why I avoid watches with eccentric strap arrangements), but imagine how irritated a non-WIS will be in a couple of years when he discovers that he has no choice but to...

+1

Well said!

He possibly won't care, since a non-WIS ....

... would not be informed about cheaper substitutes. Additionally, even the possibility to swap a watch strap is something that simply does not come into the mind of the average watch owner. Normally, people keep one and the same strap on the watch for ye...

Spring bars a no-go??

 By: BDLJ : July 31st, 2009-23:10
I don't agree, Marcus. My G-shocks have spring-bar attachments, as do all my dive watches....Not only are these of real importance (dive back ups), they get treated harder than any of my other watches. Granted, I have NATO/G10 straps on them and the "fat"...

EHC uses screw as well

BALL engineer hydrocarbon series uses screw for the lug and metal braclet extension as well. Here are some pics of it if you can see(Apology for the photo as taken with nokia phone cam). Cheers....

They are "no problem" only when frequently replaced ...

The problem of spring bars is the massive stretching they are often subjected to when the strap is fit over a diving suit. In the specific industrial standards on diving watches, there is even a specific value of force the strap attachments have to surviv...

Stretching?

 By: BDLJ : August 2nd, 2009-18:57
All my dive watches with rubber straps are the ribbed style. When you strap the watch on there is no need to strap it on tightly at all. The purpose of the ribs is to compensate for the compression of the dive suit under pressure. So at depth, you actuall...

Spring bars are definitely no-go for me

 By: AnthonyTsai : August 2nd, 2009-16:03
because I had a spring bar pop off on a 2 week old watch for no reason (I was just walking and not doing any strenous activity), and my watch fell on the hard concrete destroying the movement and dial. And this is why I really despise spring bars now. I'm...

Don't worry....

We're working on a strap adapter system as we speak... Being a Panerai collector for years, I already know the habit of rapid strap changing, and this is being taken into account with the LW product development team ;-) Thank you for the comments... a ver...

its great to see that companies actually look at our forum and take our comments on board. thanks Martin and look forward to what you come up with. best Graham

Strap System

 By: DSD : December 28th, 2009-15:42
Anthony- Quick question on the strap system (if you happen to know). It appears that you are attaching and detaching the strap by removing the hex nuts from the watch head itself and the metal attachments travel with the strap and then are reinserted and ...

I don't think this is possible

 By: AnthonyTsai : December 28th, 2009-20:44
because the metal strap part inside the strap looks to be built into the strap like a Richard Mille strap. The top of the strap appears to be sealed up which prevents you from removing this metal strap insert. - AT

Thanks, Anthony.
