Zenith as Official Timekeeper at the 25th Ennstal Classic car rally 2017

Zenith served once again as official timekeeper for the 25th Ennstal-Classic, a three-day-event for classic race cars with starting point in Gröbming in the Austrian province of Styria, held from 19 to 22 July 2017. The smell of hey and hot engines is in the air. The only thing that counts is pure driving without electronic devices.

Below a few impressions:

The weather promised adequate scenery illumination, you just needed the right tools (sunshield and a VW Karmann Ghia Coupé (1971), for example, or...

... classic attire combined with matching watches:

Preparations for the 'Bentley Boys':

Getting started (Porsche 911 S; 1972) on top the Zenith El Primero Classic Cars Ennstal Special Edition:

Bugatti, but see below...

Red Bull Ring Spielberg:

Zenith's own Alfa Romeo Bertone chasing a Porsche 914/6 GT (1969):

A great showing of heavy metal: A Maserati A6GCS/53 Fantuzzi (1954)

A 1928 Bugatti 37A driven by the Hübner sisters from Viennese Zenith Retailer Hübner:

Arnolt Bristol 404X from 1955:

The Porsche Museum came with their best, the 917:

But those of course were not the only ones, here a number of silver bullets by Porsche :

Fiat came over with their lovely 1100 S MM from 1948, famous for being the basis for the Cisitalia 202 Gran Sport car Tazio Nuvolari piloted in his last race:

Fiat Stanguellini (1946):

... but also more bread & butter vehicles promised fun: VW Beetle 11 Luxus (1959)

Alfa Romeo Giulia TI built 1965:

Mercedes 190 SL (1960):

Porsche 911 (1965), matching nicely into the nature around:

Porsche 356 Cabrio (1954):

A very nicely preserved Jaguar E-Type S1 Cabrio (1966):

Sometimes contestants took the wrong turn, so residents offered help:

Sunshine is a state of mind...

Victory forthe team of Alexander and Florian Deopito from Austria and their Lagonda LG 6 Le Mans Special (1938), first time a pre-war car won the Ennstal!

Its no surprise that Zenith Austria/CEE CEO Alexander Seidl and his team were very pleased with this fantastic event:

There was just one sad aspect to it, due to an illness Ennstal veteran Sir Stirling Moss and his wife could not attend - still, the organisers had a greeting card to convey:

Cheers,
Magnus

Thanks for such an amazing selection of pictures. I felt like I was on the front row. This has to be on of those things to add to any bucket list. Enjoy.

Based on the El Primero 36000 VpH Classic Cars (see my review here ): There were still some who preferred the 'ultra-flat' version: Best, Magnus ...

Great report, Magnus!

...was my fifth participation - and I just love that rallye! Wonderful roads, lots of kilometers, fantastic cars and very nice people! And nice watches, too! Certainly a lot of those lovely Zeniths. But also a high percentage of Rolex Daytonas.
