Only those with an 'A.M.I.' engraving and a military service number (M.M. ('Matricola Militare'); followed by a 6-digit inventory number) were actually assigned to military use. This was one of the (few) specimens which were not handed over to the military, instead they were sold to the public (as far as I understand).
From the total 2500 piece production run, 2000 have seen military duty, and 500 not.
Having said that, HSTE's specimen is of exceptional condition. I have handled a few, and even the non-military version can look quite beaten.
