A wristshot of the Zenith El Primero Classic Cars

I like a lot this watch.

For two reasons:

- the dial design creates a wide range of color shades
- the minutes counter is overlaping the hours one which allows to fully use it! It sounds logic but it is far from being the case of all the Zenith watches...

Creating one of the greatest chronograph movements of all time and then render it partially useless via sub-dial layout is something I will never understand. Really glad they have created this version and hopefully retain this logical dial layout in futur...

Thanks! And it is a very surprising watch due to the "Geneva stripes" on the dial...

Sometimes it looks black, sometimes brown, sometimes grey... and never boring! Fx

+1 FX...

Overlapping subdials are readable...

1. The El Primero minutes dial is jumping so it is never "in between". 2. On the 1969 the hour hash marks match up to the 17-21 minute values so you can easily read the sub dial. The dial design is actually pretty sophisticated and can be "decoded" if you...

I understand the design compromise here.

But in my experience, I rarely time events over on hour, usually cooking, tube journeys, meetings etc., so for me minutes should be given prominence in the sub dial hierarchy. Helpful observation though, thanks for sharing. Ian

Yes, I agree

And from a design perspective I like the blue so making the minute sub register overlap the hours would add more blue to the dial which I think would be good also. But I think you are right, even though you can decode the dial, I would prefer the minutes ...

... also because of usable chronograph minutes. Color is nice as well and the stripes surely offer a nice play of lights. As JCB has announced in an interview I saw a major 2nd gen El Primero for the soon future (if you could call it like that), I just ho...

If you visit revolution.com, there is in a series of videos an interview with JCB and Wei Koh.

Best Picture and Dial Variations

I have to say that is one of the best pictures I have seen of the Classic Cars. Really stunning. From a design perspective I love the fact that Zenith went with only 2 lines of text on the watch and did not add a 3rd line - "Classic Cars" which would have...
