Chronos=time
or Personification of Time in pre-Socratic philosophy and later literature.
Here presented as an old man clipping wings of Cupid…how very a propos 😊 😊.
(Pierre Mignard (1610-1695) - Time Clipping Cupid's Wings (1694))
Along scythe he was pictured with wings as well and hourglass.
Interestingly enough the ancient Greeks had two words for time: chronos and kairos.
Chronos refers to chronological or sequential time while kairos signifies a proper or opportune time for action.
Of course ancient Greeks had God for every occasion so Chronos governed linear, chronological time
while Kairos governed the indeterminate moment that is right for something to occur.
So this
weekend we will be dealing with Chronos or as in Renaissance they called him Father
time wrongly identifying Chronos as Cronos
(later being the Titan that overthrown his father Uranus as ruler of Universe by first castrating him….
only to be overthrown later by Zeus his own son…lot of inside club fights in ancient Greek Gods 😊).
Anyhow dear friends this weekend on WatchProSite Weekly WristScan or shortly WPSWWS 😊
share your watches that either write (chronograph) or measure (chronometer) time 😉
Chronographs
flyaback chronographsdouble and triple splits....
chronometers
observatory chronometers....
and all of above combinations goes.
While you think about your inputs for weekend in a vein of good old Chronos
allow me to share a word of wisdom
Time does not efface what noble men leave behind,
and their prowess
shines forth even when they are dead
(Euripides, Andromache 775)
