My 22 year old smartwatch

Apr 15, 2017,07:41 AM

Following henryrover's post about a watch with sentimental value for him, I dug out my Timex Ironman Triathlon Datalink model 78401 which I inherited from my father, originally purchased by him in 1995. For those who never came across one: Wikipedia did

I have not worn it in many many years, but felt like it all of a sudden. New battery in, and the watch worked.
The watch had revolutionary (at the time!) wireless data sync with a PC. I decided to try to sync it and got a Serial to USB adaptor. Found the software (which supports Windows 98, not Windows 10...) but amazingly everything connected and I was able to sync alarms, phone numbers and time through the LED sync device. It felt magical!

I am not into smartwatches at all, but got a real soft spot for this specific Timex!

But needs a PC to sync - as a Mac guy I needed to find a Windows tablet to make it "smart" so adding a PC cost makes it semi-cheap
