the question is that 12-13 years ago .. with very small records ( just a few 16660 from the first batch registered ) and very few infos .. most of us were thinking that some watches came out from Rolex with a matt dial and the others with a glossy one ( small logo ).
in the 2nd half of the 2000s .... with the help of many people either from Marseilles and from Switzerland ( LLOOLLL ) we have at last understood that all watches from the first batch of 16660 ( even if there are two different series of case numbers ) were all delivered to Comex with the matt " big logo " dial.
the most interesting point is that some of these watches ( including the 6 lucky ones that made Hydra V ) have probably been the very first 16660 to receive the new dial with WG surrounded indexes and glossy finish.
the " upgrade " with the newest parts avalaible was a common practise for Comex watches due to the agreement made with Rolex in the early 70s : according to this all services were made by Rolex " for free " ( but only for watches still in the property of Comex ).
this agreement has survived for nearly 30 years and has expired around the middle of 2000 due to a Rolex decision.

My fav Cx always was the non-logo 5514, but a great pal has just committed to a matte 666 Cx and I can't wait to see it. I think the 666 matte is actually the coolest of the bunch! More pics ;-) R

......however, as Marcello pointed out, it is most probable that the gilt dials were not service dials at all. Some very early numbers were also with gilt and not service. In all likelihood, 100 666s were produced and some 30-40 are known with matt dial.....
