I have reviewed the Milgauss before. It was never a popular watch for Rolex. It was never seen as a "Rolex" when it was first sold. It doesn't have that Rolex DNA that is so overt from the Submariner class. It doesn't have that typical feel of a Rolex.....to be blunt.....it was a very poor seller in its day.
Today, it retains that 1970s feel....it has echoes of the 70s in a way that few other Rolex do.
I was talking to a friend recently. I mentioned the 1019 I was wearing. He has collected many many vintage Rolex, but never had a 1019. His response was ..."yep, I really like the 1019 but I have never had one." I responded....."The trouble with the 1019 is that its noyt an exciting watch so there are always reasons to delay buying it." This resonated with him.
And for so long it has been the case. I think it took me 5 years to finally pull the trigger on the watch below. It is a slow burner watch.
But actually, now that it is in my collection for a couple of years, I know that it is part of the core. This one will always be in there because it is an absolute joy to wear. In a way that can really only be appreciated by people who have worn them, the 1019 can easily become a core watch for a vintage Rolex collector.
