Since quite some time I was looking for a Tudor Black Bay. Not difficult to find, unless you want an ETA based one AND you also decided you only want the BLACK Bezel. Aka the 79220N. Honestly I emailed a lot of Tudor dealers in several countries ( Spain, Portugal, Italy, The Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, UK) I don't know for sure but I bet I contacted between 20 and 30 of them. Half of them never replied, the other half all gave me the same answer. 'Sorry sir' but we don't have that reference anymore, but we can deliver you the new black bay with the inhouse movement. A few answered they still had an ETA but only the blue or red. But unfortunately I really wanted the black.
Ok no succes, so what about Ebay and chrono24. Now this is strange, I looked several times and almost never one came up for sale. Again, an abundance of red and blue but no black. I believe in the last weeks I saw 2 popping up on chrono 24 and literally within hrs they were sold. I contacted both and both times I was to late .... It just sold sir.
I guess collectors are really hunting them. We know they are rare (rare for being Rolex/Tudor). Made for only 5 months or so. to be precise between 14 october 2016 and Basel so March 2017. But I didn't expect that they were so hard to find. And this makes it even more interesting for me, always nice to try to find one in that case. Had to try harder I guess ...
Until I thought : ' hmmm, what if ...' And sorry but the rest is my little secret
Anyway, I ordered a lot of them ... and I mean A LOT !! (in fact all I could get)
Without problem I could think of 10-20 watch collector friends I know since many, many years. All of them passionate watch enthusiasts and no flippers ... so let's make all of them happy
So I bet you'll find quite a few happy Black Bay 79220N owners on this forum ( some active members others just lurkers) in the near future
Imo one of the most beautiful sports watches. Is it the well finished case, the gilt dial, the red triangle or something else? But it does look gorgeous
