A brief story of why I love Rolex so much and I will keep it short

My late father loved watches and one of his greatest joy was having a YG Datejust to celebrate his landing of a nice job in the bank.  However he did not keep it, cause even his bosses at that time did not wear a gold Rolex.  He sold it to my late uncle.  When I was a kid, my father always cut photos that had Rolex from magazines to show me.  He told me, when you grow up and have your financial means, buy some nice watches.  Of course both he and I at that time thought Rolex was the best watch on this planet.

Many years passed and I followed my father's footstep and work in the bank.  My first decent swiss watch actually was not a Rolex, it was a manual winding a skeletonized Edox.  And of course I still keep it to these days.  I bought my Rolex Mid-size two tone in 1991 and that was it.  I did not start to collect more watches until year 2000.  I did not know why and I still do not know why suddenly I am into watches.  I start with a few Patek Calatrava and then Audemars Piguet, Vacheron,  Jaeger, Girard Perregaux , Blancppain, Piaget and Cartier etc. but  did not add another Rolex.  The reason to me was at that time, Rolex is so mainstream.

But after all these years,  I do not know why for the last five years, I have a change of taste, though I still love many brands that I aforementioned, I suddenly go back to collecting Rolex.  It is not until these last few weeks I finally realized that because my father has passed away in 2011 and I miss him so much.  Probably collecting Rolex can somehow bring back my fond memory and time I spent with him.

Afterall, all Rolex watches, regardless of price range are very well made watches.

Best regards,

Baxter

Your connection to Rolex runs very deep through the memorries of your father.

No need to look any further but just turn up your wrist and the feeling he is there. What a great way to enjoy your passion. Bill PS- Thank you for sharing.

Nice story, Baxter. And oh yes, they are very well made watches, indeed. Not the top of

High horology, but their main virtue lies in their quality. Best, Nicolas

And also the virtue of longevity - which enables so many people to have experiences like yours

after all, who wants to say "I got this watch from my dad, but it broke and I can't get it fixed because they are out of business, or don't have parts, etc." That rarely happens with Rolexes. Congratulations, Cazalea
